Silkroad vSRO "Shard Manager DB Connection Failed" Solution

When starting your Silkroad private server ShardManager.exe module stops with red error lines on the opening screen and "DB Connection Failed" or "ODBC Error" warning indicates that the game engine cannot access the SQL Server database. When this error occurs, the game cannot proceed to the opening phase in any way. You can apply the following technical solutions to fix the error.

Method 1: ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) Driver and DNS Settings

vSRO files do not connect directly to the database, they use ODBC data sources, Windows' bridge software. A deficiency in this bridge breaks the connection:

  1. to the Windows Start menu ODBC Data Sources (32-bit) Run it by typing . *(Important: Since vSRO files are 32-bit, you should definitely choose the 32-bit version).*
  2. System DSN Go to the tab. hereSRO_VT_SHARD,SRO_VT_ACCOUNTCheck whether connection names (DNS) such as are defined.
  3. If defined, double-click on them and enter your SQL Server username (Usually `sa`) and your SQL password. "Test Data Source" Press the button. If the test fails, you have configured your SQL password incorrectly.

Method 2: SQL Server SQL Auth (sa) Account and Password Checking

Even if your password is correct, SQL Server may have turned off encrypted login requests (SQL Authentication) from outside or local modules:

  • Open SQL Server Management Studio, right click on your server name at the top and click Properties say.
  • Security Go to the tab. Server authentication of option "SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode" Make sure it is checked. If Windows Only Mode is selected, ShardManager cannot connect to the database.
  • Don't forget to restart the SQL Server service after changing the setting.

Method 3: `Certification` Folder and Ini Files Compatibility

If your ODBC tests are successful but ShardManager still gives the same error, you should check the SQL password encryption in the ini files in your server folder:

  • in the `Certification` or `ShardManager` folder srNameServer.ini or shardmanager.ini Open the files.
  • Make sure that the passwords in the database connection lines are written correctly. In some file infrastructures, these passwords are written openly, while in others they are requested as encrypted. Edit this area according to your files producer's instructions.
